The '89 SHO wheel is the same as the upgraded alloy wheel available on all Tauri
from the time they came out. It is machined on the outer surface, as opposed to the
'90 SHO wheel, which is not. From a distance, they both look the same, except for
the center. The '90 is painted or color coated or something...I think they are
ugly, and I have two '90 SHOs. (Neither of them has stock wheels anymore.) Most of
the '90 wheels were 'argent' silver....a few cars had black wheels. We call them
('89 and '90) "cookie-cutter" or "basket weave" wheels. The hubcaps on the '90
wheels are unique. In 1991 the slicer appeared, and was non directional. The
slicer wheels became directional during the Gen 2 run, sometime between '93 and '95.
They are noticeable by having more pitch on the spokes, and also having arrows for
rotation stamped or cast in the center hub portion. I don't think slicer hubcaps
will fit '90 wheels. They come in two designs, one with the SHO logo stamped on
them, and the non-directional wheels' caps are flat (no pattern).
All Gen 1 and Gen 2 wheels are interchangeable, and I believe Gen 3 wheels will go
on older SHOs. I'm a Gen 1 kind of guy, so others can answer questions regarding
the newer cars.
If you have 16 inch wheels, you can install most brake mods available, which the
cars definitely need. This is a reason to go to '91 or newer wheels, unless you are
wanting a strictly stock appearance.
