I've got a 94 sales training video on the SHO that starts to compare them to the cost of the 24 valve V6 dodge sedans (intrepid, etc) and says that the reason the SHO is much more expensive is due to the engine, citing it is/was much more expensive to produce vs the then current domestic ones.  Interesting if none the less.

BTW it's an interesting video, along with the original 89 Ford press release show where the SHO was introduced and engine explained.  Part of my early SHO laser disc collection,  I should encode all these on a DVD for posterity, they are sorta fun to watch.
