"I had the idea of getting one of those video projectors and using it
instead of a monitor. Just use one wall of your office as a "monitor".
The problem always was that you could barely squeeze 800x600 resolution out
of those TV video projectors, and even then the text and details were blurry.
And the PC-monitor projectors couldn't do TV -- but the latest generation
of them has solved that problem. So that would be the route to go.
The price point is creeping down on these over the past couple years, but a
lot of the development work has been to get them smaller, lighter and
brighter. That means they've been offering better projectors with the new features
for the same, old, still kinda high price at about $1 - 1.2K. So we haven't
hit the sweet spot on the pricing curve yet. Probably another year or so to
wait for the price to really start coming down on these.
Periodic bulb replacement costs shouldn't be ignored, bulb life is typically
1-2K hrs and cost can be $200 - $400. I doubt these prices will drop much
in the near term.
To swerve it back a little closer to topic, those puppies sure are awesome
if you want to be smack in the middle of your auto racing games!!
