Same reason the ATX EEC yanks timing during shifts.  Reduce the torque at
high rpm during shifts, to make the crappy trans live *try* to live longer.
Interestingly the 3.2's are also retarded slightly (about 2 degree)...maybe
to try to make up a bit for the loss of low end?

The 3.0's are going to cause any significant (or any at all) loss of torque
at low rpm.
