Subject: [Shotimes] Rookie Timing Belt Question

There is one dimple in each cam gear, two lines on the belt, and two raised
marks on the timing cover at 12 noon. All of these must line up at once. On
the lower end, same deal, there is a line on the belt, a dimple on the crank
gear, and a raised boss on the oil pump at about 4:30-5:00 position. Line up
all three at once, actually all nine marks at once. The KOA letters on the
belt must face a specific direction for this all to work. IIRC you read the
letters as if you were standing on the driver's side, and looking over the
engine. Seems backwards, but that is correct.

OK, just rotate it clockwise. You'll be OK. I just built my motor and had
the tensioner all apart. IIRC it only had about a half-spin of pre-load,
and wouldn't spin all the way round anyway, cause it bumped into something.
Twist it farther than required so you can have some slack in the belt to get
it on. Then release the nut so the tensioner can do its job. Rotate the
engine a couple times, and don't forget to tighten it back up, where it is.
