I've had serious trouble with MAFs. At this point I think I've tried nearly all available MAFs from SS, FPS, CSR and PP. Every single one of them sucked in one way or ther other.
I finally took the plunge last year and installed a 77mm Pro-Flow meter with an oil free washable cone filter. This piece is a bit expensive, but it is trouble free (so far) and it is definately better than the stock MAF at low rpms. It also seems to have removed the slight stumbling I always had somewhere between 3-4k rpm.
Btw, talking about bang-for-the-buck (BFTB) mods.
I challenge anyone to find a better BFTB mod than the following mod:
1. replace the air filter with a high-flow foam or K&N filter - ($20-$40)
2. remove the silencer cone
3. punch some holes in the stock air box.
This will give at least 5HP on a stock motor because the stock paper filter is restrictive.
The second and third best BFTB mods are to upgrade to high-flow Y-pipe and install UDPs.
As Mark Nunally said, the correct name for the high-flow dynomax cat-back is "dynocrap".
