Most Ford dealers don't want to work on SHO's period! But
yes,you are right, the weld is not approved. IN a move I
really don't understand, Ford DID approve an owner paid for
service of using some Loctite on the sprocket, like Tim and
Paul first thought about before welding was decided on as
the best solution. This is in the form of a TSB that is NOT
sent to owners, you have to know to look for it, then it is
worthless.
The Loctite may prevent the initial loosening of the
sprocket by a tiny percentage of miles, but it really isn't
anything you want to do since to do it, you have to be right
there where you can weld it, and welding is a permanent
solution.
I know of one person that talked their dealer into welding
the cams, and they had to sign a form saying that the dealer
was not responsible for ANYTHING. As it turns out the
dealer fubar'd the job and the heads had to be replaced.
Due to the signed form, owner was out a bunch. I think the
dealer gave the owner a little discount on the work that
ruined the engine.
That is why we have the list on V8sho.com that shows those
people that are experienced and WANT the business.
