I had a neighbor with an Audi V8 and I tried to explain the same thing to
him. He would be pumping the gas pedal trying to get it to start, but it
was obviously the CPS. The CPS is located 1.5" from the exhaust collector
on that car. I even offered to R&R it for him, but he was convinced that it
was something on the front of the engine. He would stand there fanning the
front of the engine for 15 minutes. Then the car would start. Eventually
the CPS completely gave up, and he had to pay full price to have it fixed.
An Audi CPS is around $299 at Kragen.
Having 1 SHO and 3 Mustangs, my experience is the same as George's, except
that the starter on the 86 just cranks faster (and weighs less) than the 88
and 92.
