Interesting.  I don't understand this quote from the article:

What about the Thunderbird, and the Taurus?  They both were new 
nameplates and cars to NASCAR, maybe they mean the first nameplate NEW 
to Ford that was used as a NASCAR car in its first year?  That might 
make sense.
