Thanks Bob. I didn't see any of these responses until now, at 9 pm my time. I've
been talking to a couple of guys on the TechSHO list. (I had SHOTimes sorted wrong
in my mailer, and didn't notice it...no new messages were visible.)
I'd go with the broken wire scenario, except I didn't do anything to the harness
since yesterday, when it worked like always....dim light after start, until a rev to
above 1500 RPM. It isn't impossible that something broke...this thing is no spring
chicken, but I just don't think that's what's up. It will work OK now, after I rev
it to about 4000 RPM (still no light, though). It turns out that the front bearing
in the new/other alternator is noisy, so the whole thing is moot. I'm ordering a
new alternator tomorrow, and will have both of these rebuilt to my specs...new
brushes, rings, regulators, diodes and bearings. (I know the guy who will do
them...he'll give me a deal...maybe $75 each.)
Thanks for your input....I'll let you know what happens.
If I can't get the light back at all, I'll just install a $19.95 voltmeter in this
car until it retires.
Later!!
