One way to tell your tank capacity is to run it completely dry, then fill it
up until it overflows.  It is not advisable to run your tank completely dry-
for one reason the pump my overheat when it is not emersed in gas.  But
sometimes accidents happen and you run dry without knowing it.  I have also
heard that there are reasons for not filling your tank all the way to the
top.
