Ian,

My general approach has been to strip the engine down to the longblock
and trans in the car, and then lift out that as one unit. I then
throw in the new engine at the same state and re-assemble from there.
It's not too bad to strip the engine to that point, and make it
really easy to remove the works as one unit. No heads and manifors
means no clearance isssues to deal with, and no WP also helps. If you
are at that point, the pull is really easy. I guess I don't mind
assembling a lot of the bits in the car.

I have been thingin a lot on my next put the car on the lift and
remove the shift linkage, unbolt the dampers, struts at the top,
wiring, and hoses, and to put some stands under the subframe. Then
raise the car up, and leave the engine, trans, and nearly whole
drivetran sitting there. I could then put it on a dolly and wheel it
somewhere to work on it. That has to be about the quickest way I
could come up with to r/r the motor and drivetrain. Anyone done
something similar before?
