 I always do it with the engine at least as warm as possible. You want the
closet conditions to running as you can reasonable get. I never heard that
your more likely to cross thread plugs when hot? I have not done a SHO
compression test so maybe it's a little different? I use anti seize on the
plug threads and tester, just never force anything. Sometimes I will run a
tap thru them just to help prevent jumping a thread.
 You will have lower readings the colder the metal is. Does the shop manual
specifications say anything about using a warm engine? Or shooting some oil
in the cylinders after getting a low reading?
