Check with your state on the db limit of your horn. NY State had a 115db limit (not sure of the distance), so if you hit a SD40 air horn (assuming full air power) in a car or truck, nobody could be within 50 feet or they would go instantly deaf.
I know this because a fellow I knew growing up had one on his full-sized Chevy van and he had to be extremely carefull where he used it.

P.S. My Dad has been a Lionel Train dealer for over 25 years...
P.S.S. Another fellow train buff had a crossing gate with bell. He had a neighbor who lived behind him, with a right-of-way through his yard. He also had a line of trees dividing their properties. He set it up one night while they were out, waited at the power switch, and as they got to the tree line, lights, bells, and arm descending! Also, screeching tires, slience, then the neighbor got out of the car and said "If you EVER!!!!"

An employee where I work once brought in a train horn. We hooked it up to
the shop air system. We even measured the air volume consumed. That beast
used something like 25 cfm @ 90 psi. It really was a draw on our airline,
but it made a huge sound! Sure hope you use large enough plumbing. It
should be a BLAST to sound that one off in a traffic jam.

Next week I am going to purchase an actual train horn to mount on my SHO.
The airtank and compressor are going in the trunk, but the 3 horns are going
under the hood. The dimensions of the horn are 16x14x10, and i was wondering
if by removing the airbox resonator where the silencer cone is located would
give me enough room to mount this. (I will probablly also be taking out some
of the wheel well if more room is needed.
In replace of the airbox, i am going to try the ram air insturctions in the
FAQ on SHOtimes.
do you guys think that this will work??
once the horn is on, i will throw up a video and sound clips on the internet
for all to see!
