Actually, it's less than that to get from touchdown speed to zero. If touchdown
speed is about 130kt or so, that's about 225 feet per second, plus or minus. (88
feet/sec is 60 mph) It took us 200 feet to stop, so that's one second, just to
stop. But the jet isn't done when it stops...it has to roll backwards a few feet to
let the cable fall out of the hook. Then it can taxi out of the way for the next
guy, who also has no fuel!! ;-)
Two seconds is about what it takes to take the cable, stop moving forward, roll back
a bit, and disengage the cable.
