69 only had the 428. In the newer body style anyway. Basically a GTO motor
but 428 not 400. 390HP.
Other years had a detuned 455 which wasn't nearly as strong.
Passing gear at 80 in this thing was so ferocious it would almost give you
whiplash and it would lay down twin 6 ft stripes, yes at 80. I liken both
them and the GS Buick skylarks to the SHO for their "Go fast with class"
theme. Luxury, style and speed. There sure were a lot of lean years between
then and now for fun cars.
