[Shotimes] silencer cone

I'll second that. I went 40K miles on the K&N panel filter in my '89 (which
went in when I pilled out the entire silencer). Really no difference in
filter crud from stock, as it pulls air from the same location.

I would take out the entire box and cone.  As long as the fender liner
is put back securely and is in good shape you still won't need to
clean it but every 40k or so assuming an oiled filter.  If you want to
be more aggressive you could enlarge the hole in the fender and air
box to match.  But the GEN 1-2s really have a good OEM CAI in the
stock air box.  Not much to be gained except sound.
