Skyboxes/private suites don't pay salaries; "TV money" pays salaries.
The NY Yankees have the biggest payroll in MLB, and the NY Rangers have
(had) the biggest payroll in the NHL. Neither one has plans of moving,
building a new venue, or adding sky boxes.
As for taxpayers footing the bill for a new stadium, you need to get new
politicians. The NY Jets want to leave Giants Stadium (in NJ) and move back
to NY City (good riddens - I wish they'd take the Giants with them). The
Jets wanted the City to build them a new stadium - with taxpayer money of
course. A full scale ad campaign was started with many irate taxpayers
saying that the money should obviously be used for Education &
crime-fighting, rather than a new stadium. As it stands right now, the Jets
are not getting their new stadium (unless they pay for it).
