Ten years ago I'd agree with you.  But with what's been happening lately, and with
what we are learning about the planet, I'd have to say now that we just knew about
all of California's faults and earthquake potential sooner than that for all the
rest of the country.  Seattle (and all of Oregon and Washington) is just as likely,
if not more so, to be damaged as we are here, by the Juan de Fuca plate, and there
are lots of faults under many other large population areas, like the Adirondack
mountains of the east coast, and Chicago and other places along the Mississippi
River valley.

The whole continent (heck, entire crust) is shifting, not just us.  The Pacific Rim
is more noticeable lately, but the rest of the area will catch up.
