The low pressure switch will shut the compressor down at 28-30 psi. It's
adjustable so there is a range over which it will operate. Remember that on
the low side the pressure is pretty close to the evaporator temperature and
you don't want that to be below 32 F. or it will freeze up. You either don't
have enough Freon or you have a restriction somewhere in the system. Like
the other suggestions you got, you need to see what the high side pressure
is doing at the same time.
