RonP: "I have a NAPA nearby (Dave Pillsbury's favorite shop here in
Oxford), plus there is an Autolite parts store nearby.....a typical, old-school
grimey shop that has oddball stuff I need, like the drain plug for my '99 AX4N
tranny pan, oil pan drain plugs (std & magnetic), and bins of metric
bolts/nuts/washers."

I love those greasy old places. After moving to DC from Hawaii where
everyone works on their cars out in front of the house, I have a theory that the
higher the average annual income of the community, the crappier the auto parts
places will be. The ones in this county all have 20 kinds of carnauba wax
and a window full of spinner rims. Asking about, oh let's say, Grade 8 bolts
is only good for a blank stare from the counterdude. They are clueless if it
doesn't have a part number in the computer. I gotta go over to the low-rent
county next door to find anything close to a real parts shop staffed by
people who actually know something about 'em, thankya kindly. It's like a breath
of fresh air to go in there.
