I wouldn't worry about it.

Last week, I started up my '88 Fiero GT that has not been started since May
1999, and the gas tank was filled in the summer of 1998, with lots of
Sta-Bil in it. The car cranked for maybe 20 seconds, then started. That
cranking time sent some oil around to the bearings (really doesn't take
long).

The oil pump is pretty efficient. Oil will get to the bearings within
seconds

OK, so say an SHO has just been sitting there with no battery for on the
order of more than a year... are there any special procedures for starting
it up so that when you do start it up the 3-5 seconds of absolutely no oil

bought, and when I first tried to start it, it acted like it was seized...
the starter would engage but it wouldn't make it past 1/16th of a rev, then
when I backed off the engine would kinda go 'whumph'... after figuring out

minutes of idling and revving it started making a bad knocking sound which
sounded like it was coming from the bottom end... uh oh... so I turned it
off and haven't started it back up yet. SO, for future reference, should I

Looks like I'll be figuring out how to do rod bearings real soon. It's a
good thing I got this car, though, cos now I can do all the things I want to
do to my car to it first cos I don't have to worry about *#)%ing my car
up... like changing the rod bearings, 60Ks, stuff like that... cos
seriously, the first time I do anything I royally mess it up somehow... the
first strut I changed (destroyed a half-shaft), the first endlink I changed
(forgot to put washer between bushing and nut and it self-destructed about
500 miles later), the first hood I put on (it still flaps in the wind,
kinda), the first speaker job ('6X9 possible with some metalwork' MY #*%!ING
ASS), my first alternator rebuild (ok, so that actually went really well,
but still!)... you get the point. I've been afraid to swap out my fuel pump
or fix the odd whining noise or do rod bearings on my car for that reason.

I like beater cars. :D

so yeah... any suggestions?
