FWIW, Norton also has a Worm detector in 2005 that recommends that you turn off the XP firewall. Since about all of my wireless work is through Linksys router/firewalls, I feel that I'm in good shape.
Also, my SBC/Yahoo ISP (both dialup & DSL at home) has a Spyware blocker. It works well.....almost TOO well, as it blocks all of my posts from the 911 list (for whatever reason). You can teach it to let things through, but I wish that it had a user interface to program in specific issues (like the 911 Rennlist).
Overall, other thansome spam getting through, I have had no worm or virus issues (knock on wood!!).

I run Mozilla's Firefox web browser. I don't plan on
going back to IE any time soon. It uses less system
resources, is supposed to be more secure and it
overall a lot easier to use than IE. It has it's own
pop up blocker too. If you want to stick with IE, do
run the google toolbar that Ron runs. I also installed
the yahoo toolbar on IE because it has a good
anti-spyware scanner built in. Thanks to IT guy and
all around swell feller Bill Murray for that tidbit.
I also run a software firewall called "Sygate Personal
Firewall". Google it or check www.tucows.com. It's at
least as effective as Windows XP's firewall but it
shows you what's actually going on and has stopped
some things from accessing the internet that XP didn't
care about. Some of those things were spyware so I
prefer Sygate. I run that on my 98 SE laptop (cough
cough ancient) and my XP Pro desktop.
I also have other utilities that I run only when I
want (so they aren't in the systray sucking up system
resources). I think they are Ad-aware, sybot and
..something else...Maybe Ron mentioned it. It's been
awhile since I've done a full scan for anything..
