It's hindsight now, but if you would have studied the way the old bar came
out, the new one would go I the same way. "Flex" is not needed to get the
bar in. Yes, it's a tighter fit, but the 26mm was standard on Gen 1s, and
fits in with patience.

Oh, getting the old one off wasn't that big of a deal but the 26mm bar is
absolutely huge and it's a tight squeeze... and it doesn't freakin' flex at
all. I tried both sides of the car with equal failiure...

You must have installed it from the wrong side.  I forget which side is the
proper side, but you can remove and install the rear bar without taking
anything apart.

yeah, but it's a real pain to get on. It took me a friggin' hour to wrestle
it into place; I had to take the control arms off and everything... really
sucked. Then I forgot to put the control arms back on... *sigh*
