[Shotimes] reverse noise

I've been getting a weird noise when in reverse. It only happens in reverse,
and only when the clutch is engaged. And interestingly enough, mostly just
when the front wheels are turned. Backing straight out of my driveway, it
almost never does it. But as soon as I turn the wheel, it starts. It sounds
like something knocking, but mostly like something rubbing or grinding.
Once, when I had to turn around at the end of a deadend street and didn't
have a choice, I could smell a metal on metal smell. I usually start backing
up straight and then put the clutch in when I turn the wheels.
It started all of a sudden one day. I dropped the car off to get the
exhaust system replaced and get my state inspection. When I picked it up it
was doing it, although not as bad. I took it back for them to look at and of
course it wasn't making the noise. I have since checked it out and couldn't
see anything that has been rubbing anywhere. Brakes look good, halfshafts
look good, tires and wheels have no signs of rubbing on them. Because it
only does it when the clutch is engaged, it makes sense that it would be
transmission related, but it works fine in all other gears. It doesn't make
any noises other than in reverse. It shifts fine, especially after the fluid
change. I had the clutch and all associated sleeves, etc. replaced about 20k
miles ago.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm praying it's not the tranny, but that would seem
to make the most sense.
Sorry for long post, and for the cross-post, but I wanted to get the
"big-heads" opinions from Techsho also. ; )
