Does anyone know how the cars Carl mentions compare, in current dollars,
with the price of Gen1 SHOs? Just curious about the comparison. Thanks.

Sure. First I have to say that I wanted a RWD car as a first cut.
Also had a preference for 6 cylinders or better.
1) GTO: This car is not your typical cheap plastic interior Pontiac.
The Aussies did a fine job building this up from their Monero
platform and integrating the LS2 engine. A real beast and a treat to
drive if raw horsepower is what you are looking for. The interior has
some minimal frills. If you like the moonroof in your SHO, you will
miss that in this car as a for instance. The color coordinated gauge
cluster and seating surfaces are very nice. The dealer installed
sports appearance package improves the car's visual appeal. Low
option content and lack of 4 doors were the problem here. The GMS
discount made this very tempting.
2) G35. Really a bargain in this segment of 4 door sports sedans.
Plenty of whoop and decent handling. Good feature content. I was a
little annoyed that Infinity chose not to offer their Premium Package
B with the 6MT and therefore not provide rear airconditioning ducts.
There's no doubt the Japanese car makers are building good cars. I'm
sure I would have been happy with this car.
However the 330i just has a better overall feel to it, both in terms
of general appearance externally and internally. To drive this car is
really spectacular. It's everything people say about it in terms of
being a superior handling car with excellent performance stats. It
really makes me feel at home coming from the SHO right down to the
sports bucket seats that have those wonderful bolsters. The bluetooth
and xenon adaptive headlights with autoleveling are nice too, and rear
passengers get the rear cooling ducts. The Logic 7 audio system is
far superior to the stereos in the other cars, plus it gives me the
ability to plug my iPod into an Aux input which will hold me over
until the full iPod integration becomes available.
