Probably....but if they did that, it wouldn't be FWD. Apart from the big FWD Cadillacs with the Northstars, Acura has shown that a 3.2 liter 280 HP engine in a midsize FWD car is about the limit.
Anyway, the Yamaha connection was a "mistake" from which the SHO benefitted. If the modular engines had been ready for prime time, Yamaha would not have been in the picture.
Yamaha didn't kill the technology. The newest technology is in the Volvo V8.

I think if the YamaHammer was still at Ford today it
would be a 3.8 or a 4.0 litre with hp at 300 and
torque at 250-275, with 30+mpg's!
I think it was a big mistake to kill Yamaha
technology.
