I stopped at the bottom of the hill, put it in gear, and attempted to go. The car lurked forward in the same jumpy way as the tach, responding to the jumps in the motor. I limped it to her driveway and left it there. Does anyone have any idea what the hell is causing this. I had a theory that maybe the plug wells had filled so high with oil that they were misfiring, but it just seems odd.
Oil-filled plug wells can do this (mine kept filling #3), but are you getting a CEL also? I had an old DIS module that would do this when hot under hood (AZ summer, "brisk" running, A/C on). It'd feel like every third plug wasn't firing for about 30-40 seconds, then everything would seem fine, except I'd get a CEL pointing to no CID.
Swapped in my spare DIS module with a liberal application of heat sink grease and everything's fine.
Of course, if you're not getting a CEL, check your plug wells. If you're misfiring, remember that the carbon trails can form on both the plug insulator AND inside the plug wire boot. Learned that one the hard way.
