Hi Doug,
I'd suggest changing the plugs and the wires as well myself. Oil is a
conductive agent, and once the spark leads are contaminated, they're
basically shot. You may not be able to find new Motorcraft AGSP32PP plugs
for the SHO anymore, (which are the Motorcraft originals), but I used
Motorcraft AGSP32FMF6 platinum plugs, (which Ford and Motorcraft both
assured me were compatible with the 3.0 MTX SHO motor), when changing mine,
and I found that the fit and performance were great.
Also. Does the engine "lope" or miss when the CE light is on? I had a
similar experience recently, and I found that the problem was actually being
caused by the Cam Position Sensor which was intermittently shorting out. A
new CPS runs about $120.00 or so, so it'll cost about the same as a new
ignition module, but it may be worth looking into as well. Perhaps you
should have someone check the code being generated when the CE light comes
on...
Best of Luck!
