>From what I gather, the Yamaha V6 was to be used in
some variation or another (3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6). I'm
guessing that the Italdesign "Ford Maya" was purchased
and later cut up (I think the orginal intent from what
I'm gathering was to graft the body onto a purpose
built chassis). At some point, Ford was also chopping
up Pantera bodies to use for this project. I don't
think that Rousch had anything to do with it except
that they have 2 prototypes in their museum in
Michigan. I also suspect that the Italdesign car's
styling cues remained dear to someone at Ford as the
Probe seems to descend from the same lineage.

This is all conjecture based on what I've read, heard
and seen. Interestingly enough, I've seen a few sites
list the Italdesign's motor as a 12 valve V6. I don't
know if this is a typo or if this was a precursor to
the SHO motor or what. However, I'm guessing that all
of the specs are cited from one central source so I'm
leaning towards a typo and guessing that the
Italdesign car was supposed to be powered by a 24v SHO
motor.

Man, I'd love to get my hands on a production ready,
OEM Yamaha 3.6 SHO motor!
