[Shotimes] timing sprockets not fitting crank

I've got 3 timing belt sprockets and none seem to
slide onto my crank. I remember going through hell
trying to remove the sprocket from this particular
crank years ago when I disassembled the engine. I
needed to use a pulley remover, vice grips and a
hammer. Since then I've learned that this is unusual
but I forgot until tonight when I was trying to fit a
sprocket back onto the crank. Should I be looking to
the woodruf key as a source of my problem? It looks
like its firmly in place but for all I know, it's
installed backwards. I'm going to look through my
archives of SHO engine pix to make sure it's oriented
the correct way.
I tried tapping one on with a rubber mallet and it
just became jammed up on the crank. I needed to pry it
off using the wood handle of the mallet. :-(
Thanks
Ian
