My friend sent me this...the clip worked for a few hours, then this happened. I
haven't been in there, so I don't know how to answer. Can anyone help? TIA

The black rubber gasket between the round end of the gear rod that holds the gear
shift ball in place split in two. Split in two as I was turning onto "P" Street. I
had first gear all of the rest of the way home.

There was a dull thud and a tiny clink and all that I had was first gear. This clip
is very weak and it bends out of shape easily. I know not how to use it to do what
it is supposed to do. Do I need that round rubber gasket/holder? Does the clip
work without it? I just do not see how unless there is a pin of some sort to hold
it on the union between gear shift and shift rod.
