[Shotimes] bad bearing symptoms

I personally experienced a bad front wheel bearing. I believe it may have
been caused by driving around 100 for about 3 hrs. When i got off the
highway, i heard a grinding noise. I drove the car without replacing the
bearing for months. Eventually the grinding or groaning sound got louder and
there was some vibration. It was hard to diagnose. Even a ford mechanic i
knew with sho experience misdiagnosed it. If you put the car on the lift and
run the car in gear, you can see the displacement and wobbling in the shaft.
It looks like the half shaft might be bad instead. When I finally replaced
it, I removed the whole spindle, put it on hydraulic press, and it took many
tons to pop it out. I don't think i could have done it without the press.
The bearing was trashed, but no other damage to the car occured that i know
of. I have a homemade special tool for pressing out the bearing it anyone is
interested. hope that helps.
