A starter is normally something I would do myself.  Had the car started to
act up instead of just failing totally all of a sudden I would have done it
myself.

The car broke down in town, a few blocks from the shop it was towed to.
Getting it towed to my place 20 miles away would have cost even more.  If
replacing the starter did not fix the problem I just wasted half my Sunday,
and now I need to get the car towed the 20 miles back to town so a real
mechanic can figure out what's wrong with it.

We like living in a small town in the country, but it can be a real pain
sometimes.
