Yep...it's a mini-Katrina in some parts of the North Bay...the Russian River floods
at 32 feet, and it is at 40 feet now, and expected to go to 45 feet by tomorrow
noon. The Napa River affects the wine country cities...Napa, Healdsburg, St.
Helena, and others, and they are or were flooded up to 3 or 4 feet deep on the
streets.
We are fine...no flooding here (the Rhododendrons in the terraces are grinnning from
ear to ear). But I-80 didn't do too well...in the middle of Fairfield, it (just the
freeway and the adjacent offramp) is about 4 feet deep across all the westbound
lanes....right where we got off to have pizza last summer. There aren't too many
alternate routes around that spot, and traffic is a mess. It's backed up about 20
miles, and there is nowhere to pump the water....it will have to go down by itself,
they think.
I'm sure glad _I_ don't work for CalTrans!!!
They're saying this is a 50-100 year winter. We had one in 1986...this one might
surpass that one. The wet spots in the north bay have had up to 20 inches of rain
in one week, from Christmas to now.
George.....had to have flood insurance on the last house.....never again!!
