To me, it looks like the hindquarters of the Gen 1 Camaro mated to the
forequarters of the late 70s Bird -- even though it's not a split grille, it looks
like it "oughter have" a vertical bar at the nose. It strikes me as a
somewhat strange "mix 'n' match" of generations. (Kind of like, if you look at it
from the rear you think "396" and if you look at it from the front, you
think "455"...)
Whereas, the 'Stang sticks with the '69-70 styling all around and looks more
unified.
The unique styling element of the "turn of the decade" Cudas and Challengers
was their foursquare stance and jacked-up look -- as if they were lifting
the front end and just about to pop a wheelie while sitting still. This was
enhanced by the front ends being severely undercut instead of having skirts and
spoilers. The new one has that same feel, although yep, those rims are also
too dadburn big.
Of course they also went with those krazy kolors for those few years of
psychedelia, with the likes of "Panther Pink", "Go Mango", "Top Banana" and "Plum
Crazy" (aka "Statutory Grape") Let's see if they bring those back too.
Cheers,
Mark LaBarre
