Adam:
Ford products sometime need a vacuum drawn on the P/S reservoir. The P/S
fluid gets air entrained and it seems to be hard to get it all out. I raise
the front of the car. Attach my hand vacuum pump to the P/S reservoir. I use
a large rubber stopper that I got at Lowes for about $1.50. Drill a hole in
the center and jam in a short piece of hard brake line. Then just attach the
vacuum tubing to the steel tubing. Start the car and pull a vacuum and then
turn the steering wheel back and forth. Usually the P/S noise is constant
and more of a moaning or humming sound.
I don't think that is your problem.
Possible bad outer tie rod end on that side. If you have the factory rubber
socket tie rod ends this is VERY common and happens long before they wear
out physically too!
