It is mandatory to fill the compressor with 
>the correct PAG oil and then set the compressor, clutch end down, for at 
>lest 30 minutes prior to installation. This insures the shaft seal is well 
>lubricated before it is run. If you don't, you have a chance of that seal 
>being put into use unlubricated.

In my three-compressor warrantee replacement extravaganza (ended when the car was totalled three days into the third REPLACEMENT compressor), I experienced this. It took the compressor two hours to blow the seal, and when it did, I thought I standing in front of a foghorn that had ingested helium. Was like listening to a thousand nails being pulled down a chalkboard. Nearly wet myelf.
