Well...are they oriented slightly different?  Do the hose connections fit any easier into one or the other?  

Next, trace the lines back into the engine bay...one is the return, and one is the pressure output, right?  Can you tell by looking at the rack where the inputs go....to the diverter valve, or from the far ends of the piston/cylinder assembly?

...trying to picture a P/S rack in my mind (at work, no Helm's), after seeing Slorider's about 12 years ago....
