Actually Don, the Gen 2 ATX's do have a factory external ATX cooler. It is
just in front of the radiator, it is the whole width of the normal radiator.

Alan,

If you are talking about the cooler that is in the drivers front area 
just below/behind the radiator, that is about 6" square with a U shaped 
tube running through it, that is the Power Steering cooler.  There is no 
factory Tranny cooler other than the one in the radiator.

Thunderhill was an extremely hot day, but more importantly, there were 
three extremely long straights, and over 350 feet of elevation change 
PER LAP.  This led to more tranny problems than usual.  I ran a cooler 
on my '96 and had zero problems.  I just had my Ford dealer (a good 
dealer) install a mid-sized tranny cooler.

Be sure to change your fluid before the event, fresh fluid works 
better.  We try to keep sessions to 15-20 minutes to prevent overheating 
of brakes, tranny's.  Memphis is a flat track, with about a 1/2 mile 
straight, but the way back is more low speed, so tranny and brake 
cooling should be better there than at many tracks.

NOTE: that you can do BOTH the track event and the RACE ON NASCAR style 
driving adventure.  We are still taking entries into the RAce On event 
through the end of this month.
