Much different running on dry pavement.
It was a very short "Test and Tune" track and I got at least 10 runs on it.
I was only a few seconds behind a brand new Scooby WRX STI all day so I was
not totally out of wack. This course required brakes in one place so I did
have to do some foot-work. The clutch seemed to hold fine, all I could
smell all day was rubber. I do need some better tires. I think I would
either need 100psi or some concrete in the ones I have to keep from running
on the sidewall every corner.
Between runs a guy came over to the car and asked, "Is that a manual?"
"Yeah, five speed." I told him. "We saw you shifting but none of us thought
they ever put sticks in those cars." During Tech I had my hood up and that
got some attention as well. So many people think the "SHO" designation is
just another trim package.
The event was very well put on. We had a quick driving class before the
race and the Solo Chairman walked us around the course explaining how best
to take each turn.
Tomorrow is the race and I plan on going back.
