Hi All,
for the 3rd time now in 85K miles (the car has 205K on it), the crank  sensor
has failed apparently.  The car just abruptly shut off last night,  and I am
getting a 14 code from the EEC.  The check engine light also stays  lit when
cranking.

Has anyone else experienced this hi frequency of failures, and is there a
brand of sensors I can buy that are better than others.  I don't have this
apart yet, but I suspect the tab with the magnet in it has broken off.  Any
help
is appreciated.

Make sure the shutter on the crank timing belt gear is not bet at all. If
one of the vanes is bent even a little bit, it can lead to cutting into the
CPS, rendering it useless. I have seen a few cars with bent ones, usually
after a 60k done by an owner that didn't take proper care not to damage that
shutter wheel. take the timing gear off and lay it on a flat surface. All
three vanes should make 100% contact with the flat surface.
