I usually dis-assemble items like your switch in a clean dish tub.  The
small or volitile parts can't escape me.

Jim, if it bothers you, take heart. There is light at the other end of
the
rocker switch!
The switches can be dis-assembled, with a certain amount of care, prying
with flat-bladed screwdrivers, and tongue set just so at the corner of
mouth.
The end of the rocker moves a copper tab to ride over different tabs
connected to the wires. Beware, as there is small spring in there to
create
tension against the contacts. It would create a more emotional, and less
constructive tension, if one were to lose it.
