1/2" heater hose but cut it just a bit short so you can sneak it out if 
you ever have to replace it with the head and/or water pump still on the 
engine.
Like others said, don't even think about that replacement bellows hose 
or just carry a couple dozen of them as spares.

I have been using aluminum water pumps since the 70s, never a problem.
