Years ago a couple guys wrote a book called "The Oregon Desert". Very 
interesting reading. I loved the part about how their horses were so fast 
because the grass was so sparse that they had to graze at about 30 mph just 
to keep from starving to death. Looks as if you are closer to that scenario 
than to the Seattle climate. Still, there is a river through town to 
ameliorate things, so it can't be too bad. Garage space for LBCs should be 
affordable...
