[Spridgets] Emblem question

This may be the wrong group to ask but...I have nothing to lose.
I'm trying to create a Healey graphic based on the bonnet badge of a sprite. 
Here is what I have so far:

What the heck is the shield supposed to have on it.  Peter suggested that they
look like diamonds and salt shakers.  Can anyone set me straight on what they
are supposed to be or represent?
