Jack,
Whilst normally I would suspect the rear scroll seal, in this case and 
with a newly rebuilt engine, it sounds as if the leak could be coming 
from the oil pump.  The pump could be fitted upside down (there is a 
drain hole) and / or the metal "can 
" that protrudes through the back plate could be leaking.

Unless you have just overfilled the oil - looking for an optimistic 
solution !
