[Spridgets] stuck in first

Typically this happens with an accumulation of wear and increase in
sloppiness with the shifter fork and rod. Short of a lot of new parts, the
thing I do is to put a small spacer on the first gear sfift rod so it will
maintain some clearance between the first gear shift fork and the inside of
the case. It's a fix that works well. And it does prevent the "over
shifting" in 1st gear where it gets stuck with a detent ball mostly out of
it's socket, ready to jump out. Depress that and then the shift fork works
again. That you can usually do with the side cover off. Down side is, it
might happen again on the next shift!! Put the spacer on the shaft, and it
prevents that. Total disassembly of the gearbox is not required.

Several listers have done this fix successfully.
