I don't think I've ever met such a bunch of wimps.  Obviously, whoever 
fixed the snails didn't know how to cook, or you would have found them 
so tender they would melt in your mouth.  Like shellfish, they are very 
easy to ruin by over cooking.  Go somewhere with a /real/ chef, and you 
might find that you actually like them.
