[Spridgets] Advice needed on hood problem

Thank you for the information... so that is not my problem  ;-((
SO my idea goes out the window!!

Here's what I'm facing....
If I am looking, from the grill end, at the left hood hinge..
The hinge appears to be basically horizontal. The two left hand bolts are 
through the hinge into the hood, but there is a space of at least 3/8ths of an 
inch between the hinge and the hood.
The right hand side is a mirror image and has the same problem...
Sort of like a narrow 'V' laying on its' side..

I have to use about 4 washers between the bolt and the hinge, otherwise 
the hood jams against the scuttle lip when trying to open it....

Would  photograph of what I'm desribing help??
